Senior Analyst, Energy Systems and Carbon Markets
Ellen Hawes is Senior Analyst for Energy Systems and Carbon Markets, working out of Vermont and New Hampshire. Her work focuses on energy systems, land use, and bioenergy. She leads Acadia Center’s participation in New Hampshire energy policy work, providing expert testimony before the Public Utilities Commission and the legislature. Prior to coming to Acadia Center, Ellen was Research Coordinator for the Climate Change Initiative of The Nature Conservancy, where she coordinated a program to develop cost-effective ways to quantify carbon sequestration and worked on rules for land use and forestry under the Kyoto Protocol. Ellen received her master’s in forestry from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. While at Yale, Ellen was a member of the School Forest crew, helping manage 10,880 acres of forestland. Her research at Yale focused on analyzing trends in forest structure, health and ownership in the Connecticut and Pennsylvania Highlands Region. Ellen received her BA in International Relations from Brown University.
