Despite an apparent increase in support from the New England governors for new gas pipeline capacity into the region, power generators remain skeptical about the viability of entering long-term contracts to support the infrastructure.

Climate advocates in the region remain skeptical about the potential cost and emissions benefits of pipeline expansion.

Joe LaRusso of the Acadia Center noted that while gas combustion is less emissions-intensive than oil combustion, methane leaks across the supply chain can cause the emissions footprint of gas to exceed that of coal.
