Senate passes energy bill making key advances in solar and energy efficiency

The Massachusetts Senate passed An Act to save people money, repair the climate and grow the economy  (aka – the Energy Bill) (S.3143), which made meaningful advances in the continued adoption and growth of clean energy in the Commonwealth. Baystaters want to power their lives without polluting our air and water, harming our health, changing our climate or emptying our wallets. Key elements of the bill:

Preserves MASS Save: The bill preserved MASS Save, the state’s premier energy efficiency and electrification program from a proposed $1 billion budget cut.  MASS Save is the ratepayer funded program that helps households and businesses reduce their energy use through weatherization, energy-efficient products and tools, and the purchase and installation of clean energy appliances like electric heat pumps. According to the Acadia Center, since 2012, MASS Save programs have delivered over $55 billion in total lifetime benefits to households and businesses across the state, providing $3.40 in benefits for every $1.00 invested in the programs.
