Energy affordability has emerged as a dominant theme of energy policy conversations over the last 1-2 years, with overly simplified narratives wielded to explain highly complicated and interconnected factors - from weather and energy consumption to supply costs, international markets, and policy impacts. Acadia Center has deployed its research and analysis to shine a light on the true drivers of energy cost increases in recent months across the Northeast region (and beyond). The following fact sheets serve as resources summarizing these energy cost drivers across electricity and natural gas, and they address and debunk a number of erroneous claims often repeated about what policies, programs, and investments are responsible for recent price increases. This page will be updated as additional energy cost driver fact sheets and analyses are conducted and made available.
