The Northeast has the transmission. But where’s the power?

New York and Massachusetts bet their energy future on Canadian hydropower. But that agenda is off to a rocky start.
The two states recently energized a pair of long-planned transmission lines designed to carry hydro from dams in Quebec to consumers in New York City and Boston.
But supporters say the new power lines will prove their worth over time.
“The precipitation and water level will fluctuate over the years,” said Jamie Dickerson, who leads the climate and clean energy program at the Acadia Center, an environmental group. “Even though drought will be a rising risk, I think over the 20 years the lines will have a significant emissions benefit.”
